Voted by The New York Times as one of the places to visit in 2013, Getaria is a small quiet fishing village that packs a big punch; Txakoli, Fashion and Fine-Dining.
Our tour will enable you to sample and taste this autochthonous dry, slightly acidic and almost sea spray-like white wine at family-run bodegas, and as the birthplace of Cristobal Balenciaga, one of the 20th Century’s most acclaimed fashion designers, we will visit the museum dedicated to his work. A stroll around the mediaeval streets builds an appetite worthy of some of the region’s outstanding restaurants.
Picked up from your hotel, we take you to Getaria for our first stop, a visit to a traditional Txakoli Bodega, where the family will pour you a glass and explain to you the tradition, history and process of this remarkable wine. The meandering streets from the hills lead down to The Balenciaga Museoa and finally the fishing port, giving us the perfect opportunity to pair some other local txakoli and pintxos… If fashion isn’t your thing we can visit a fantastic local anchovy preserver and cannery instead. Lunch is taken in one of the finest restaurants in Getaria, whose grilled fish is almost as famous as the town itself. To finish we will take you back to your hotel.
