Rioja and Txakoli. Two fantastically different, yet so characteristic wines of the Basque Country.
One fresh, light, and zingy, much like the Basque Coast where Txakoli has two of its three different varieties.
The other, hailing from the Rioja Alavesa region where the poor soils and elevation of the vineyards create the world-famous rich, complex and darker reds.
Earlier this month, blessed with fine weather and spring in full swing, we visited both Rioja Alavesa and the Bizkaiko Txakolina regions with friends from Montreal. A couple of excellent tours where we learned about the varieties, the soils, the production secrets and the super tastes and flavours offered by two of our most famous Basque products.
