Carnival in The Basque Country means, fancy-dress, basque cider house, steaks and all round carnival-style shenanigans.
Who said the Basque Cider House is locals-only?? Germany, Spain, USA, Canada, England, Basque Country and Japan… all represented at this year’s carnival in Astigarraga with Basque Experiences.
The annual pilgrimage with 25 friends and guests saw us celebrate Carnival this year in Alorrenea Sagardotegi in Astigarraga! As much steak and salt-cod as you can eat, all washed down with this years latest ‘vintage.’
Only open from Feb to April, this weekend was a special one with groups of friends and families filling Gipuzkoa’s Cider Houses for lunch and then dinner later.
Just another of our secrets here in the Basque Country
Its a long day when you set off at 11 and get back at 2, but hey! its Carnival, what else do you expect? Same again in couple of weeks, without the convict outfit this time though I reckon…on second thoughts.
